Wind Cave National Park, one of America’s oldest national parks, offers its visitors a stunning tour through a hidden underground world beneath the prairie. Wind Cave is one of the longest and most intricate caves on the globe and has unique and rare formations called boxwork that you won’t often come across elsewhere.
Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn, our premier hotel near Wind Cave National Park, situates you in an ideal location to easily explore all that the park has to offer. Comprised of just over 28,000-acres, this national park presents its visitors with a very diverse variety of wildlife. Because the park is located in an ecotone (a place where two or more ecosystems meet), it offers an exclusive look at a myriad of species and their habitats. From tallgrass prairie to short grass and mountain, to plains, explore the acreage and observe the animals in their natural environments. Prairie dogs, elk, bison, antelope, coyotes, bobcats, badgers, predatory birds, and buffalo are some of the common species you can expect to see on your visit here.
Guided tours are required to see Wind Cave, but they are run continuously for 362 days per year. Choose from a selection of 5 different tours (3 walking tours and 2 specialty tours). Tours are divided based on difficulty and range from “Easy” to “Very Strenuous” depending on the incorporation of off-trail travel, crawling, and stairs.
View the park’s website before your visit for a comprehensive guide of Cave Tour Safety Information.
