Welcome to Jewel Cave National Monument, the third longest cave system worldwide, stretching over 193 miles underground. This subterrestrial wilderness is a spectacle of brilliant colors and delicate formations. Make our hotel near Jewel Cave National Monument your jumping off point and start planning your exciting excursion.
Explore the surface by taking one of the two self-guided hiking trails, or set out on the U.S. Forest Service trail. The trails vary in length and time required to complete – even if you only have half an hour to spend at the monument, there is a hike suited to you! In order to enter the actual underground portion of Jewel Cave, you must be on a guided tour. There are four different tours in operation at Jewel Cave (Scenic Tour, Discovery Talk, Historic Lantern Tour, and the Wild Caving Tour). Depending on the season, these tours vary in terms of which are offered and at what time of day and week they run.
There is a fantastic opportunity for the children to get involved and immerse themselves in the wonders of the cave system. From our hotel near Jewel Cave, bring the kids and start exploring! While the cave tours are not handicapped accessible, there are suitable options for children to take part in. For kids aged 5-12, Jewel Cave National Monument also offers a Junior Rangers Program which aims to challenge children and evoke their curiosity and appreciation for nature.
